Lynnwood, WA - After last weeks 3-0 loss to Peninsula, the Trojan defense was back, getting the shutout for the third time this season, and more importantly defeating cross county rival Edmonds CC for the 2nd time this season by a score of 1-0.
Both teams played stout defense in the first half, with each only getting one shot on goal, and both keepers registering the save. Emmanuel Margarito had a great opportunity for the Trojans in the 29th minute, but his left-footed strike was just within reach of sophomore goalkeeper for the Tritons, Colin Hauser and he was able to make the diving save.
After a scoreless first half, it looked like the defensive battle would continue in the second. It would be nearly 20 minutes into the 2nd half before either goalkeeper would start to be tested. After two shots on goal for the Trojans the best 2nd half opportunity came in the 71st minute off of a Cade Cooke throw-in on Edmonds side of the field, a set piece that EvCC has scored on numerous times already to this point in the season. A Mamadi Sarr header attempt was just barely deflected and the follow up shot by Nahor Asso sailed over the cross bar.
Ten minutes later the scoreboard would get it's first and only action of the day. Nahor Asso coming off of injury and seeing his first action since August 28th, sent a ball into the box trying to find a streaking Mamadi Sarr. The ball instead found the foot of an Edmonds defender, and ultimately the back of the net for and Edmonds own goal.
Everett kept the pressure on for the next few minutes, but Edmonds had a couple opportunites late in the final six minutes of regulation. Rofaiel Dawood, made a nice move amidst the Trojan defenders and blasted a shot to the near post that was miraculously saved by Cameron Beardsley to prevent the equalizer. Beardsley ended the game with 3 saves, but none so impressive has his last.
The 2nd place Trojans will next play host to Shoreline on Wednesday at home. The Dolphins have given up 11 total goals in their last two games and will surely look to improve their defense against the Trojans. Kick-off is set for 3:30pm at Kasch Park.
