Everett, WA - The Everett Community College Trojans volleyball team delivered a dominant performance on Dig Pink night, an annual event raising awareness to the Sideout Foundation's efforts in breast cancer research. EvCC swept the visiting Whatcom Orcas in straight sets (25-19, 25-11, 25-21) at the Walt Price Center in front of a crowed decked out in pink. With the victory, Everett improved to 11-15 overall and strengthened their North Region standing with a 6-2 conference record, good enough for third.
Everett started strong in the opening set, overcoming early errors which saw them trail early 5-0. After stringing together a series of run, the Trojans started to pull away late and secured a 25-19 win. The second set showcased the Trojans' offensive precision and defensive discipline, as they hit an impressive .323 while holding Whatcom to a negative attack percentage of -.027. In the third and final set, Whatcom showed resilience, but Everett's consistent pressure and balanced attack proved too much, closing the match with a 25-21 win.
Leading the charge for Everett was outside hitter Maya Gaudia, who tallied 12 kills on 30 attempts with a .333 hitting percentage. She also contributed 11 digs and added two block assists, making her a force on both sides of the net. Setter Taylor Holland was instrumental in orchestrating the offense, dishing out 28 assists her highest of the season in a three-set match and served up two aces. Holland has over 500 assists on the season and on pace to eclipse the 1,000 assist mark for her career. Freshman Reinna Mostrales added six kills and three aces, while fellow freshman Katie Burkholder was a standout at the service line with four aces and nine digs.
As a team, Everett posted a .236 hitting percentage, compared to Whatcom's .111. The Trojans also led in total kills (33 to 21), service aces (10 to 5), digs (54 to 40), and blocks (4 to 1), demonstrating their dominance across all facets of the game.
With postseason aspirations in sight, Everett will look to build on this momentum as they head into the final stretch of the regular season. Their cohesive team play and standout individual performances suggest they are peaking at the right time. EvCC hosts Skagit Valley on Friday night, which will all but solidify a trip to the post season with a win. First serve will be at 7:00pm.
