Trojan Capitalize in Distance Events at Larry Byerly Invite
Everett, WA- Trojan Track and Field had a good showing at the Larry Byerly Invite hosted on the campus of Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR over the weekend. Four Trojans hit personal bests highlighted by Luke Taylor who ran under two minutes for the first time in the 800m hitting 1:58.03 and climbing up to #10 on the NWAC performance list. Teammates William Pyeatt and Zayne Cola also hit 800m PR's.
In the men's 5000m, three Trojans hit lifetime bests, Charlie Roberts, Hector Mendoza, and Kenenisa Udo who led the way running 16:25.15. The most impressive 5000m time came on the women's side, sophomore Teagan Pentz continues to get faster, hitting a PR at 18:52.54 and moving up to #4 on the NWAC performance list. Taya Kilgore, Heidi McKinley, and Amelia Koon each hit PR's in the 5000m as well and Lily Rock hit a season best.
To round out the distance events, Ariel Rodriguez had a big 2 minute PR in the 10,000m running 46:15.12 and moving up to #12 on the NWAC performance list.
Everett will use this moment heading into next week at the Ralph Vernachia Invite, hosted by Western Washington University. The Trojans will see good competition at this meet, competing against high level 4-year athletes.
