2023-2024 Male Athlete of the Year & Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Dual sport athlete Khalil Gilbert played a key role on the Trojan basketball team that advanced to the NWAC Elite 8, and then transitioned right into track season, where a week after the basketball season concluded he competed at the Peyton Shotwell invitational and took 3rd overall in the 400 meters. Two weeks later he took 1st in the same event at the Linfield Invite beating out a number of four year athletes as well as other community college competitors. A strong outdoor season sawKhalil named the NWAC track athlete of the week and qualifying for five events, the 200m (ranked 8th), 400m (ranked 3rd) , Long Jump (ranked 4th), and as a member of both the 4x100 and 4x400m relays. At the Championships, Khalil entered in four events and became a 4x NWAC All American and was the high point achiever for the Trojans securing 19 total points. He set a personal best in the long jump going 22’ 5.75” which won the event by two inches. He went on to also PR in the 400m with a time of 48.92 seconds, the 3rd fastest time in school history, and finished 3rd in the event. Gilbert led off both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, both squads taking third. The 4x400m team ran a season best 3:25.17 at the championships which is the 8th fastest all time at EvCC. Khalil served on the Student Athlete Leadership Council and will be graduating this spring with his AA degree. He will be attending the University of Texas El Paso where he plans to walk on for both basketball and track.
