Young Trojans Squad Gets Experience in Oregon
The Trojan cross country teams traveled to Oregon over the weekend to run in the Lewis & Clark Invite, the largest meet of the year consisting of over 600 combined runners in the men's and women's collegiate races. And while neither the men nor the women fielded enough runners to score team points, it was a valuable experience for the freshman to participate in such large races with so many runners varying from NCAA DI, down to a number of NWAC competitors....
Estacada, OR - The Trojan cross country teams traveled to Oregon over the weekend to run in the Lewis & Clark Invite, the largest meet of the year consisting of over 600 combined runners in the men's and women's collegiate races. And while neither the men nor the women fielded enough runners to score team points, it was a valuable experience for the freshman to participate in such large races with so many runners varying from NCAA DI, down to a number of NWAC competitors.
The men raced in an 8k with 345 runners and were once again led by freshman Liam O'Brian who finished with a time of 29:36, good enough for 20th place among NWAC competition. Newcomer Diadie Diarra, basketball player converted to cross country runner, saw his first ever action in a cross country race and was the next Trojan to finish with a time of 33:21. Rounding out the team was Joseph Heisley and Luke Pusateri.
The women raced in a 6k for the second time this season and freshman Emma Arceo led the way with a time of 26:51 finishing 17th among NWAC runners. Teammates Johanna Schmidt and Kayla Schueller followed with times of 29:53 and 29:49 respectively. Johanna's race was particularly strong setting a new 6k PR for herself.
Everett will have two weeks to prepare for the Northwest Region Championship meet which will feature Whatcom CC, Edmonds College, Green River College, Olympic College, Pierce College, and Everett CC. The women's race will start at 10:00am followed by the men, and will be at Lake Wilderness Park in Maple Valley, WA.
