Trojans Continue to Improve at Warner Pacific Invite

The Trojan Men's and Women's Cross Country programs were back in action this past weekend, this time in Portland, OR for the first annual Warner Pacific XC Classic.  The meet featured six schools from the Northwest Athletic Conference, two schools from NCAA D II, two NCAA DI's (University of Portland, and Portland State University) and the host school, NAIA Warner Pacific University.  

NWAC schools in represented in addition to Everett were Umpqua, Mt. Hood, Clackamas, Clark, and powerhouse Lane.  

The women's 5k featured an as expected clean sweep from U. of Portland with the top 5 runners finishing one through five.  Runners 6 through 10 featured three more runners from UP, one from Western Oregon, one from Portland State, but an outstanding performance from Everett's Danielle Bauder placed her 10th among attached runners, and 1st among all NWAC runners with a time of 18:47; her season best.  Teammates Andrea Padilla finished 23rd and Ellee London finished 26th to round out the top 30.  London's time of 20:25 was her season best, and Kaitlin Morgan, Maylenn Cendejas, and Alison Canlas all had season bests.  

Everett's team score was 2nd among all NWAC teams, just 35 points behind Lane.  

The men's 8k race also featured a dominating performance by the University of Portland finishing 1st in the team standings.  Lane Community College finished a strong 3rd overall, first among NWAC schools, but the young Everett team, beat out all other NWAC schools and Warner Pacific University to finish 6th as a team, just behind NCAA Division II, St. Martin's University.  

Top performer for the Trojans was lone sophomore Galmo Said, with a time of 27:11, a career best by over 35 seconds.  Freshman teammates Tim Mandzyuk, Isaiah Funston, Nathan McGinty, and Isaac O'Connell all had seasons bests as well.

The next meet for the Trojans will be the Northwest Region Championship held on Saturday, October 27th at Willis Tucker Park in Snohomish, WA.
