MOUNT VERNON, Wash. – The Everett Community College women's volleyball team showed grit and poise on Wednesday night, rallying past Skagit Valley College in a five-set battle (23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 15-9) to stay unbeaten in NWAC North play. The win pushes the Trojans to 3-0 in north region play and at the top of the standings.
Everett fell in a tightly contested first set to the Cardinals, who edged out the opener 25-23. After falling behind 7-14, EvCC made it close by tying things up at 22, before Skagit escaped. Despite the loss, the late push was important to set up moment in the second set where the Trojans answered back with a balanced attack, hitting .167 and pulling the match even with a 25-19 win. Momentum carried into the third, where Everett battled through a four point deficit in a grind-it-out frame to come out on top 25-23, taking a 2-1 lead.
Skagit refused to go quietly, hitting .273 in the fourth set—its best offensive output of the night—to claim another 25-23 decision and force a decisive fifth set. But in the race to 15, the Trojans clamped down defensively, forcing six Cardinal errors and closing the match with a convincing 15-9 finish.
