EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Community College women's basketball team earned a satisfying measure of revenge on Wednesday night, knocking off Whatcom 61-50 at home and avenging a tough 56-47 defeat to the Orcas back on January 7th. The Trojans set the tone early and never relinquished control, improving to 7-15 overall and 3-5 in North Region play.
Everett came out firing in the opening quarter, holding Whatcom to just two points while building a commanding 17-2 lead. That defensive intensity set the foundation for the entire night, as the Trojans forced 24 turnovers and collected 15 steals. Although the Orcas chipped away in the second half, Everett answered every challenge to secure the important conference win.
Sophomore forward Jordan Hentel delivered a standout performance, leading all Trojan scorers with 17 points, while adding a dominant 12 rebounds, five assists, five steals, and a block. Hentel's all-around effort helped Everett control the glass and dictate the tempo throughout the game.
Point guard Myah Galdeira filled up the stat sheet as well, finishing with 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and seven steals. Her relentless pressure on both ends fueled the Trojans' transition game and kept Whatcom off balance all night.
Off the bench, Kaila Oudom provided a huge spark with 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers, while Brynn Meno added seven points and four rebounds. Selena Espinoza contributed nine points, knocking down two shots from beyond the arc, and Kelsee Hunt chipped in four points and four rebounds in a balanced team effort.
As a group, Everett shot an efficient 41.1 percent from the field and recorded 17 assists on 23 made baskets, showcasing unselfish ball movement. The Trojans also out-rebounded Whatcom 38-40 on the night and converted six three-pointers to help maintain separation.
Whatcom was led by Isla Kelly, who scored a game-high 26 points, but Everett's defense limited the rest of the Orcas' lineup and held the visitors to just 31.7 percent shooting.
With the win, the Trojans not only evened the season series with Whatcom but also gained valuable momentum heading into the final stretch of North Region play. Everett will look to carry that confidence forward into Saturday when the Trojans hit the road to take on Bellevue College who sits at 6-2 in region play. Tip off is set for 4pm.
