Five Goals in Shoreline Win

Everett, WA - The Trojans showed out in one of their best offensive performances this season, scoring five goals in the home shutout over Shoreline Community College. Off the heals of a disappointing loss on the road to Peninsula, the Trojans answered quickly against the Dolphins scoring inside the first eight minutes of the match when an unsuccessful clearance gave sophomore Lunden Fenster a one touch strike to put Everett on the board first. The SCC defense settled in, but Everett would get one more goal before the half when Matthew Bereket beat two defenders in the 40th minute and then sent a low cross directly to the foot of Anthony Henry who put it away for the 4th time this season.
Ten minutes into the second half, leading EvCC goal scorer Alhagie Ceesay got going with a goal (from Fenster) and he was followed by freshman Connor Doherty, who scored ten minutes later (from Bereket). Ceesay capped off the goal scoring in the 75th minute when Fenster sent a long ball down the field, catching the Shoreline defense asleep. Ceesay had a one v one on the keeper and secured his 9th goal of the season (14th of his career). The defense held strong giving Shoreline only one shot, and it was not on target which means starting goalkeeper Domingo Gallegos kept the clean sheet and did not have to record a save.
The Trojans move to 3-5-1 in the north region standings, tied with Bellevue for the 4th spot and still within range of qualifying for the NWAC playoffs. If Everett can win the final three matches of the season (Edmonds, Bellevue, Skagit Valley), they will have an opportunity to be in NWAC post season play for the 8th consecutive season. The next match will be against Edmonds, this Wednesday, at 2pm in Lynnwood.
