2023-2024 Men's Basketball Athlete of the Year. Transfer sophomore Derek Smith was a constant all season for the Trojans, and led the team to the NWAC Elite 8.  He was voted first team all north region as well as named NABC NWAC All American.  Smith averaged 19.7 points per game for 9th in the NWAC in scoring and finished the season with 228 made field goals which is the 7th most all time at EvCC in a single season.  He had 20 games of scoring 20 or more points, and only twice did he not score in double digits.  His career high of 32 came on a night in which he shot 60% from the floor, but his best shooting night came in the 112 to 107 win over Whatcom where he shot 9-11 from the floor for 82% and scored 23 points.  He was also a proficient rebounder from the guard position, averaging nearly 5 per game, and also averaged 2.5 assists per game. Smith was twice named to the academic honor roll, once on the Dean’s list, and is a 2024 inductee into Theta Chi Alpha.
