Samita & Eli lead Trojans in 3 Set Loss

Samita & Eli lead Trojans in 3 Set Loss

Despite a 9 & 8 kill effort from Esta Samita and Sydney Eli, respectively, the Trojans fell in 3 sets on Tuesday night to the Orcas of Whatcom Community College.

In the first set, the Trojans found themselves in an up-hill battle trailing 2-6; but Everett showed a no quit attitude and was able to re-take the lead as deep in the set as 16-14.  However, a 4-point swing consisting of 3 attack errors, shifted the lead back to Whatcom in which they would never relinquish, taking the opening set 19-25.

The second set would be another quick start for Whatcom, opening up 6-0, and then 10 points later stringing together another 6 point run to open up a 6-17 lead.  From there it was steady control for Whatcom who ended set 2 by a final score of 25-12.

In the third set, it was an even battle to start with a 5-5 score, but a five point run by Whatcom extended the lead out, and built a cusion that Everett was never able to chip away at.  The set and match was secured after a 17-25 win.

Due to injuries Paige Goodwin, normally an outside hitter for Everett, started the match as the setter and recorded a collegiate career high of 17 assists, but it was errors that plagued the Trojans all night.  16 attacking errors, 7 service errors, and 8 receiving errors, prevented any sort of momentum for the Trojans.

With the loss, Everett falls to 3-22 on the season, and will travel to 3rd place Shoreline on Friday.  After three straight away games, Everett will return home next week for a sophomore recognition night on Wednesday versus Skagit Valley College, and the final home game of the season on Friday for Dig Pink night against the rivals from Edmonds Community College.
